Partnership

A partnership was recently announced between Teri Studios and the Midwest Culinary Institute at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College. Our relationship with Dan Cayse (Dean of Business at Cincinnati State and Executive Producer of Midwest Culinary Institutes growing television program The Dish) has brought about a great opportunity for us to invest our talents in future generations of culinary professionals, and for the Institute to benefit from our 20 years of experience in creating outstanding food photography.

Food for life

Antonio Stradivarius was an Italian violin maker who lived from 1644-1737. His violins are now the most prized violins ever made because of the rich and resonating sound they produce. The unique sound of a Stradivarius violin cannot be duplicated. Surprisingly, these precious instruments were not made from treasured pieces of wood, but instead they were carved from discarded lumber. Stradivarius, who was very poor and could not afford fine materials like his contemporaries, got most of his wood from the dirty harbors where he lived. He would take those waterlogged pieces of wood to his shop, clean them up, and from those pieces of trashed lumber, he would create instruments of rare beauty. It has since been discovered that while the wood floated in those dirty harbors, microbes went into the wood and ate out the center of those cells. This left just the fibrous infrastructure of the wood that created resonating chambers for the music. From wood that nobody wanted, Stradivarius produced violins that everybody wants. Just as this poor violin maker transformed trash into treasures, God can and wants to transform every one of us into the treasured image of his Son, Jesus Christ. He can rescue us from the sludge of our sin and transform us into instruments of beauty and grace.

Stock photography assignment in Italy

Teri shoots food...in Italy. Last October we packed our bags and set off for a photo shoot across the pond, we figured we'd get a little creative inspiration, take some stock photos, visit the international chocolate festival, Eurochocolate in Perugia, Umbria and maybe sell enough to pay for the whole shebang. This team building exercise set amongst medieval streets, groves of olive trees and the history and splendor of Italy was well worth the trip.

Lunch Box

On the way to the National Restaurant Association show in Chicago. we stopped by the Triple XXX Diner in Lafayette Indiana. Sherry, (Teri Studios studio manager), had seen a story about them on the Food Network Show - Diners, Drive-ins and Dives with Guy Fieri. For dessert we had ice cream sundaes made over top of a milkshake - WOW!

Food for Life

The hardest part of being a Christian is surrendering and that is where the real struggle happens. Once we have overcome our own desire to be elevated, our own desire to be recognized, our own desire to be independent and all those things that we value very much because we are Americans and we are part of this American culture-once we have overcome that struggle then God can use us as a part of His body to accomplish what the body of Christ was left here to accomplish.

Applebee's Perfect Portions

The agency was under pressure from their client to keep cost down, after all this was just a "test market" promotion. But, because of the quality of our work - the images were not only used as planned, they we also used in magazine ads, as stills in a TV spot... etc. It's not what you spend, it's what you get for your money.

Cardini Salad Dressings

T. Marzetti wanted to update the packaging for their Cardini line of salad dressings. But should they use artwork or photography? Art director John Elleman of the Chesapeake Group asked Teri to create an image that looked painted, but still had photographic elements. Teri and Scott did several tests, working with lighting and post production effects to achieve just the right look.

Bottles began hitting store shelves in May of 2008.

Who Would You Trust with Your Biggest Brand

When LPK first approached us about working on this project, they told us that their client already had strong relationships with other photographers, and that all we would be creating were the conceptual images for the package. We were happy to help bring LPK's vision to life, and in the process we captured the imagination and respect of Kellogg's. In the end, they decided that we were the only ones they wanted to shoot these images.

Excerpt from Scott's blog: "Since we’ve been talking about shooting food this week, here’s a site that mixes Photoshop with photography. It’s called “Teri Shoots Food” and they’ve got a very clever way to show the Photoshop post production work applied to some high-end food shoots. You basically “scrub” your slider over the image, and it shows you the before/after image as you drag. It’s very slick (and there’s some very nicely done Photoshop work there)."

At this years Addy Awards, our Small Fries Cookbook and it's accompanying website combined for 5 Addy's. (2-Judges Choice awards, 2-Gold and 1-Silver). We also took home 2 more Addy's for our work with The Creative Department and Busken Bakery. The Small Fries Cookbook and website were designed by Openfield Creative. Food for Life

While serving as a missionary for the Southern Baptist International Mission Board. Lanette Thompson provided an insightful truth about trust. Because Africa is not a safe environment, she was regularly approached by people who said, "In order for you to go to West Africa, I guess you just have to trust in God's protection." Her response is shocking but true. She has answered this question by stating, "I can show you the grave of a fifteen-year-old missionary's child who died of hepatitis and a four-year-old who died of malaria. If my trust were in God's protection, my trust would crumble under such circumstances. My trust is in God, in the belief that he is in control and that whatever happens will happen for his glory." We can mistakenly place our trust in God's protection rather that God himslelf. The results of such misplaced trust will ultimately lead to spiritual disillusionment.

Taste of the NFL
(annual fundraiser to benefit Second Harvest)

For the third year in a row, Teri Studios has been asked to participate in the Taste of the NFL cookbook. The Taste of the NFL has become the premier event of Super Bowl weekend, and a valuable brand to use in the fund-raising efforts for hunger relief. Proceeds from the event go to America's Second Harvest food banks in each of the 32 NFL cities. This year we were honored to have one of our images chosen for the cover of the book.
